I researched this issue many years ago and concluded that there is no easy way to manually add a USB port. I don't know what might have caused that to disappear. If the printer was previously working, there must have been a USB port. If you then selected LPT1 as the port and continued with the "wizard," that is the reason for the error message you received: "The printer is connected to a port of an unsupported type." Is it correct that you used the "Add a printer" wizard, selected "Add a local printer," and on the next screen selected "Use an existing printer port"? And that you didn't see anything relating to "USB" in the drop-down list of ports? What happened shortly before the printer stopped working? Please confirm that your printer does use a USB connection. My understanding that this printer uses a USB connection is based on reading the User Guide for the Canon LBP-1120. Are you attempting to get the printer working on two computers (one XP and the other Win 7) or were your comments about XP for historical context?
